Professional & Competitive Sport

Clinical experience in the demands of sport

Working with athletes requires an understanding of more than the injury itself. Training load, competition schedules, physical demands, previous injuries and the requirements of a particular sport all influence how an athlete can recover and return to performance.

My experience includes working with athletes in professional and competitive sport, alongside recreational athletes and highly active individuals.

I have worked with professional ice hockey, rugby and football players, as well as runners, cyclists, dancers and athletes from other sporting backgrounds.

Supporting Athletes Through Injury

In sporting environments, rehabilitation often needs to balance recovery with the realities of training and competition.

My role may include assessing musculoskeletal problems, providing treatment, supporting rehabilitation and helping athletes progressively rebuild their physical capacity.

Depending on the individual situation, this can involve:

  • Acute injury assessment and management
  • Treatment of musculoskeletal and sports-related problems
  • Rehabilitation following injury
  • Strength and movement-based rehabilitation
  • Managing training load during recovery
  • Progressive return to training
  • Return-to-sport preparation
  • Ongoing support for recurrent or persistent problems
Sport-Specific

Understanding the Demands of the Sport

Every sport places different demands on the body.

A rehabilitation programme for an ice hockey player will be different from one for a runner, dancer or rugby player. I consider the movements, physical demands and requirements of the individual sport when appropriate, so that rehabilitation can progressively move towards the activities the athlete needs to perform.

My background in sports rehabilitation, physiotherapy, osteopathy and Applied Functional Science allows me to combine clinical assessment with a strong understanding of movement and physical function.

Collaborative Care

Professional Sporting Environments

Working within professional sport has also given me experience of collaborative environments where communication, clinical decision-making and appropriate progression are essential.

I understand that athletes may need to continue training in some capacity while recovering, and that rehabilitation needs to be considered alongside the wider demands of their sport.

Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with coaches, medical and performance staff and other healthcare professionals involved in an athlete's care.

All Levels

For Competitive & Serious Recreational Athletes

You do not need to be a professional athlete to benefit from a sports-focused approach.

I also work with competitive and recreational athletes who want to return to their sport after injury, improve their physical capacity or manage the demands of regular training alongside work and everyday life.
