FEMALE PELVIC HEALTH

Encourage Movement works alongside many women, ranging from athletes of all ages to pregnant and postpartum women and women in their later years. We believe a woman’s body is a unique system, of which the pelvis is one of many fascinating components.

Any dysfunction in your body can significantly impact your life and well-being, and pelvic issues can be challenging to cope with. When something goes wrong with the pelvic system, it can affect the internal organs and overall function of the area, resulting in pain, incontinence and other issues, many of which are surprisingly common amongst women.

All systems must work together as a team to avoid pelvic floor dysfunction. Hence, it is vital to re-establish strength and balance within the pelvic and abdominal region and address any issues with the fascia, nerves, proprioceptors, lymphatic system and muscles. Adhesions and scar tissue from past injuries can further contribute to the health of this area, so rehabilitation may be required to get things working smoothly again

OUR EXPERTISE

At Encourage Movement, we are committed to improving lives. We, therefore, offer evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of issues unique to the female pelvis, neuromuscular system and pelvic organs alongside our general osteopathy and physiotherapy practice.

We look at the body as a whole rather than a set of individual problems. Our assessment incorporates the body’s physiology and biomechanics; the interaction between different structural parts of the body such as the feet, hip, core, and spine; and the connective tissue components such as fascia, muscles, tendons, nerves and organs. This knowledge and understanding are the foundations of helping the body to heal.

YOUR VISIT

We listen closely to each woman to gain a detail of her unique body.  When you come to Encourage Movement, we will take a history of your current and past injuries; we will screen your general health and ask about your social life and daily activities. In our assessment, we will look at your posture and movement of the whole body and particularly focus on your:

  • Pelvic floor muscles
  • Abdominals, back and hip muscles
  • Respiratory diaphragm

Based on our assessment, we will prescribe a treatment and rehabilitation plan, including prescribing exercises you can do at home where appropriate.

We look forward to seeing how we can help.
